Even before my vast time here as Youth and Missions Minister, Boulevard has celebrated Souper Bowl of Caring. We do this by taking up a monetary collection on Super Bowl Sunday to help tackle hunger in Anderson. This year we as a church family supported Honey’s Place through HOPE Missions of the Upstate.
Honey's Place was named for Ms. Honey, a generous woman who selflessly provided biscuits and breakfast to all the guests at the temporary showers. These showers operated for weeks during the beginning of the pandemic when Clean Start had to temporarily close. Her heart was and is to provide guests who have become her family with a good start to their day and to serve everyone with a smile. As the temporary showers progressed, coffee also became a staple. The conversations that happened over coffee were the beginnings of deeper relationships.
Honey's Place through HOPE Missions of the Upstate continues to provide breakfast Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 7:15-10:00 a.m. in partnership with Clean Start's shower services.
Just recently, HOPE Missions of the Upstate has also met a need of becoming a Warming Center during the colder months by offering dinner and a warm place to sleep when the nightly temperatures drop.
